Srinagar
The divine beauty of Kashmir valley is the main attraction for the tourists. The city cultivation is majorly influenced by the river Jhelum. House boats are available in the river and many visitor like to stay in these boats. Srinagar is connected through Jammu railway station by roadways and takes 8 hours of bus travel. The source of sweet water of Dal Lake is the one originating from the Mughal Gardens. Other places of interest are Shalimar Garden, Apple Orchard, Avantiswami Temple, Shankaracharya Temple and Nishat Bagh.
The beginning of the Amarnath Temple journey goes through the Srinagar city only. Educational Institutions are majorly led by the Kashmir University and NIT Hazratbal.
Srinagar Flood - September 2014
With enormous and continuous rain day and night for 5 days in Srinagar, water drainage became a big threat for the region. The city is already surrounded from 3 sides by mountain ranges. Civilians and residents in Srinagar rely on open drainage mechanism for rain water.
Few localites take courage and moved to the nearby safer areas like Leh and Ladakh. Watching water enter their home, people at their own risk started moving towards the army camps at Srinagar airport. With the help of Srinagar Govt. rescue operation, army are evacuating people stranded in the water lodged areas.
